Hope Springs: A Sunday Service Episode

<img src="http://gospelmusicroundup.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/8369/0x0_780459.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Here, in the Midwest, I am making this pod cast in the middle of February. It has been cold and icy all week, and when you work out-of-doors as I do, it gets old quickly; Especially as I get older.
But in my quiet times, my mind looks forward to the spring, and with spring come thoughts of our Easter Celebration. The songs of praise and worship and southern gospel Music stir my mind to those thoughts, and what a difference salvation has caused in MY life. Even now, as cold and dark as the days are, I know I can look forward to warmth and sunshine not too far off in the future.
What a WONDERFUL correlation: His love- on the cross and in my soul, has stripped away the darkness and cold and replaced it with warmth and sunshine. Yes, I am human, and all too often I might allow that old cold feeling to return, but the Christ who saved ME is always right there when I am once again defeated from trying to fight my own battles. I look up from whatever pit I am in, and he’s right there, so close that it all the more emphasizes the futility of trying to win my own wars. If I trust in Him, he is faithful to forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness, and once again, a sweet and beautiful relationship is restored.
Did you catch that? A common misconception is to think that God somehow cannot accept us because we may have stumbled or fallen. Yet that is EXACTLY WHY we need him. Were we able to save ourselves, or to somehow be on a par with God, we would have no NEED for salvation, and certainly no idea of what sovereignty, or LORDSHIP, really means.
That would lead to utter chaos, each man trying to be lord of his own world, wouldn’t it? No one respecting another, every man out for himself? Wait… Isn’t that what the world looks like more and more every day? Who could be behind such a plan, so as to create this mindset, but the very one the bible points to; the one cast from glory due to his OWN attempt at equality with God to the point of waging war in heaven… Satan thought he could WIN in heaven, and now he tries to win here on earth.
We need to hold fast to the one who made us; who has laid down his only son, that being the Christ, as a pathway to bring our wayward souls back to him.
Jesus said, “come to me, all who are weary laden. And I will give you rest.” Let me tell you, those are mighty comforting words after a long, hard, cold day. At least, to ME, they are…

If you were to take Emmy Lou Harris, Reba, Alison Krauss, The Judds, and mix in a healthy dose of the Holy Spirit, you’d find yourself face to face with Mary Alice Vanderwaters, My SPOTLIGHT ARTIST for this edition of Gospel Music Roundup . I found myself right IN that spot, this past week, as I was listening to new music on SONGRAMP, a site that features singers, songwriters, and their new work~ You ought to check it out, sometime!
Mary Alice Vanderwaters, is a singer, songwriter and performer who calls Louisiana her earthly home.

A small town girl born into a very large family, she was the youngest child of 13 children. Her mother played the harmonica; her big brother would play the guitar, and at the young age of 7, she used to beg him to let her play his guitar. He didn't take her seriously, until she went & made her own guitar out of a scrap of wood and some rubber bands.
Only then did he see her determination, and taught her Her first song to play, a song by "The Carter Family" entitled, "The Wild Wood Flower”. She's been picking and grinning ever since.

As a teenager she joined her first Bluegrass band as the lead singer and toured for years with some of the biggest talent in the business. Those experiences taught her a wealth of knowledge that she still uses today in her country band.

During that time she also started writing and developing a passion for songs that are meaningful, with positive messages. Her writing continues to convey those same qualities.

She is a member of BMI and the Nashville Songwriting Assoociation International.

Mary shared with me the story behind her song, "It's Just So Beautiful Here" via email: She writes, “This song was inspired by a true story. One night I was watching The Weather Channel and "Storm Stories" had featured a family that had lost their two daughters in a freak tornado in the state of Maryland. The two girls had went to the college where their dad worked and he told them as soon as they walked in, "Hurry on home, there was a storm coming." Well, when they got back into the car, the tornado hit and they were both killed. The dad never considered the storm would be producing a tornado because basically, tornados are unheard of in the state of Maryland . Their mother was at home at the time and before anyone had a chance to tell her that her daughters had passed, she heard the voice of one of them say, " Mom, It's Just So Beautiful Here." Well, needless to say, I was quiet affected by their story. I wrote the song and after the demo was finished, I made it my mission to get a copy of the song to the parents. They sent me the nicest thank you card that read, "We were very touched by the song you wrote about our Colleen's first impression of Heaven." That card means the world to me and it's something I will treasure the rest of my life.”

The goosebumps you get from a story like that are the same kind of Goosebumps you get when the spirit touches your heart through Mary Alice Vanderwaters and her songs…she wrote to me in another email these words: “I still remember the day that I wrote these songs and feeling the glory of God's presents around me as He gave me the words to say, and the beautiful melodies came as easy as if I had played them a million times already.
I want to say that I know that my talent is a GIFT from God, a gift that I can't thank Him enough for.”

The Missourians! Great southern gospel quartet with a heart for MINISTRY~!

<img src="http://gospelmusicroundup.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/8369/0x0_626730.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />The MISSOURIANS started singing in November, 1988. Charlie (Burnett) and Jareld (Burnside) had been singing many years with the Calvarymen, and Richard (Crow) along with Bob Durham had sung together for many years with the Regents.
All that's left of the originals is Bob Durham, but some worthy artists have come to step up and fill the void left by their predecessors... Stephen Gilmore, Tenor, in MAY 2004; Tim Gould, Lead, in November 2004; Doug Luton, the group's BARITONE, joined in march 2005, and David Markley in August 2005. You can read more on EACH of these singers in their BIOs by logging on to www.themissourians.com, and you may even learn some REAL INTERESTING FACTS.... like which one of these guys lost control of a GO KART on the University of Arkansas Quad~!
The Missourians sing across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas,( locally known as the four state area) Bringing the Gospel in Song to churches and community events. They are heard regularly on a weekly 2-hour radio program hosted by Bob Durham, “Make Mine Southern,” heard on KKOW, 860 AM, Pittsburg, KS . the PROGRAM features several regional groups, as well as old and new music from national gospel recording artists. The Missourians have appeared on a local television Gospel Music program "Southern Singing" as well, and have recorded 10 albums and 2 videos since their formation. They have currently released
a new CD, “Coming Soon,” which speaks to our Lord's return. Known far and wide, for their tight harmonies and joyous spirit, I am proud to introduce to YOU, my Gospel Music Roundup listeners and Fans, THE MISSOURIANS!

Also in this edition, music from The Old School Bluegrass Band, Belinda Gail, Wes and Marilyn Tuttle, and MORE

<p>THE BLUEGRASS GOSPEL PROJECT </p>

Featuring six of the Northeast’s premiere bluegrass, country, and folk musicians, the Bluegrass Gospel Project emphasizes bluegrass songs infused with gospel lyrics. Steeped in the tradition of this powerful and unique strain of Appalachian music, the BGP crafts both classic and original gospel-inspired songs with impeccable instrumentation and sublime vocal harmonies.

Each member of the band brings decades of performance experience to the stage. The trading of lead singers and diversity of styles reveals a variety of band configurations in each performance, delivered with a relaxed and expert ease and powered by a palpable affinity of the band members for each other and the music.

<p>Hamilton Road</p> is a part time music ministry based in Columbus, Ohio. We are dedicated to spreading the Gospel message through song and fellowship. They have been singing for two years and have enjoyed every moment of worship and fellowship. We took our name from the place where God chose to have us meet and begin our ministry. They began as a group of guys who would sing now and again at their church, located on Hamilton Road. Soon, they had put together a substantial amount of music and people began to request that they come to their church. God touched them with a desire to minister, and found that by sharing their gift with churches, The CHURCH would share their gifts of love and prayer with all of us.

At the age of 19, just two years after even BEGINNING to show an interest in music he opened his studios, IMI music. He has produced and directed many a musical act in the last fifteen years, including Crystal Gayle! One listen, and you too will be hooked on the music of STEVE IVEY, yet he is not into self-promotion; on a regular basis you are more likely to find him HELPING someone rather than tooting his own horn; he is just THAT WAY. Sit back, relax, but make sure your toes have room to tap, cuz they're going to!

PS> the easiest way to listen is to PUSH THE GREEN BUTTON! Thanks!

Gospel Music Roundup Show 2: NOW WITH AUDIO:) Chosen Few

<img src="http://gospelmusicroundup.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/8369/0x0_626741.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />My first post of this was minus audio. don't know how that happened but lets try again!
I can't say enough about the impact this group, Chosen Few, had on my life. Their love for the Lord, their fans, and each other was demonstrated 24/7 and continues that way, even though its members have gone on to minister in other ways.
The Music you will here is from some of their earlier work, and I chose that because I wanted you to hear the sounds that I heard, and I guess too it allows me to go back in time and reminisce... but they were good to the last time I saw them, in September 05, minus Casey already (seems he got married, lol)
Lord, if you make me like anyone else, make me like the Chosen Few. you can reach them at www.chosen-few.com for news and availabilties! any comments? call 206-888-6746 or email me at gospelmuscicroundup@podomatic.com!
